Jan 14, Winter Song - Navajo Chant

Whenever winter starts to wear on me I go back to this enchanting Navajo chant for inspiration...
"I sing.
Come deer with the black tail.
Come before the long cold night.
Come to my singing. Come to my song.

The time of the fallen leaf is passed
Time of mountain maple red, oak brown.
Second Summer is passed and gone.
Now the weasel turns white,
White as the mountain tops.

We have made the lodges snug.
We have sewed warm moccasins and leggings.
We are not the frog or the turtle,
Who bury themselves and never know winter.
We walk like men even when the white storm
Closes us inside a small world.
We know the white world and the green world.
We know the cold world and the warm world.
We do not hide from the sky, because it is cold
Or because the sun is tired and the wind is whips.
We are the People..."
I just found a 5 day time lapse video of the Waldo Canyon fire that burned part of Colorado Springs. 5 days are reduced down to a little over 15 minutes and it is really worth watching. It helps you see why wildfires are so tricky to put out, because it keeps moving around, looking like it is about over, then flaring up again somewhere else.

I have posted the link to the Glade Park Volunteer Fire Department page. After reading the part about donating and/or volunteering, which all Glade Park residents should to, you can scroll down the the Firewise link, where you can find the Waldo Canyon time lapse video, AND wonderful information and resources for getting pro-active, and doing all you can to prepare to save your home in case a wildfire goes through your area. Don't just sit and worry - do what you can to prepare - for your property, then volunteer and donate to Glade Park Volunteer Fire Department. They cannot do it alone.

It is a sad day on Glade Park due to the passing of Dori Van Loan. Almost 30 years ago she married Jay, and dedicated herself to adapting to both the hardships and pleasures of ranch life. She took an interest in every aspect of it, and was a true partner with Jay in improving the ranch, the cattle herd, and ranching in general.

We send our condolences to Jay and their daughter Traci, and a whole community where she made a huge contribution and will be missed greatly.

The whole community is invited to the Glade Park Community Services Annual Meeting, ay 7:00 pm on Thursday, Jan. 26th. This is always the best time to find out what is going on in your community. The pre-meeting program will include reports from all facets of the community, including the Post Office Committee, Pinon Mesa 4-H Club, Glade Park School, Glade Park Volunteer Fire Department, and Colorado National Monument. Members will also vote to fill open board positions.

Don't be one of those who sit back and complain about what others do, or don't do. Your community needs people who actually get involved and help make things happen. In the process you will get acquainted with neighbors and discover your community on a whole different level.
