Bicycle race over Colorado National Monument on Friday, April 24, 2015

The Annual Maverick Classic bicycle race will cause traffic delays, so alternate route of Little Park Road is advised.

"Because of an afternoon bicycling event, Colorado National Monument visitors and local residents may experience intermittent traffic delays on Friday along a four-mile section of highway from Grand Junction (east) entrance to DS Road near Glade Park.

Two-hundred bicycle riders will be pedaling through the monument from 3 to 5 p.m. that day during the competitive 20-mile Maverick Classic, an annual team collegiate competition.

To avoid congestion and delays, an alternate route would be Little Park Road from Grand Junction to Glade Park.

For more information visit nps.gov/colm or call 858-3617, ext. 360."

Bicycle Nightmare
by: Anonymous

I have lived on Glade Park for many years now. Because of the Maverick Classic my drive home at the end of the day on Friday, April 24th was worse than any snow storm I've had to drive through to date.

I knew the Monument would be a mess because of he Maverick Classic, so I took Little Park, along with many other Glade Park Residents. This made things slower than usual, but understandable. What I didn't realize was that things got worse once I got to DS Rd, and then the gigantic mess on S 16 1/2 Rd.

Didn't most of us move to Glade Park for peace and quiet - not to mention staying clear of events like these? Sharing the road with bike riders is bad enough on any given day of the year - including during snow storms - why would you want to make things worse?
