Lost on Thanksgiving

by Kim Upson
(Glade Park)

On Thanksgiving morning our neighbor Pat Osberg went for a walk, which in itself is not news, except that Pat has alzheimers and was lost for almost 24 hours.

The Sherrifs office was soon responding along with search and rescue agencies and dozens of people were ATVing,on horseback, hiking and flying over the area.

As it grew dark and the temperature dropped to 25, it was hard to think of anything else but Pat out there afraid and possibly hurt. Our Thanksgiving prayers were for her safety and our gratitude for all the people who gave up their Thanksgivings, many staying and searching all night.

Pat was found on Friday morning about 2 1/2 miles from home and taken to the hospital with hypothermia and non serious injuries.

We live in a community of truly caring people and take a lot for granted until there is a crisis like this one. Too close to home, but at the same time an opportunity to see people at their best caring for each other.

What a blessing and a testament of community. Amen to Glade Park and the people who choose to live there and assist each other always like the old days.
