Dogs tree mountain lion at Glade Park home
Thursday, July 09, 2009By LE ROY STANDISH/The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel A Glade Park resident encountered a mountain lion near his home Thursday morning. The homeowner said he let his dogs into the back yard around 7 a.m. and they immediately started barking. The dogs treed the mountain lion. The homeowner called the Colorado Division of Wildlife for advice on what to do next. “We advised the caller what they needed to do is bring the dogs inside,” said DOW spokesman Randy Hampton. “It is pretty common.” The lion did not leave the property, though. “They brought the dogs in, but the lion was still kind of in the area,” Hampton said. “We used a bean bag round fired from a shotgun ... and immediately, with great haste, (the lion) left the area.” The lion was seen about two miles west of the Glade Park Store, he said.
